Panicked, she rushed to the bathroom, stripping off her clothes as she ran. She took what had to be the fastest shower in history, quickly dried her hair, and put on lotion and minimal makeup.
She snagged a cute, rose-colored sweater and a pair of black jeans. Underneath, she put on the rose-colored Victoria Secrets demi-bra and matching thongs. She had just finished dressing when she heard a soft knock on the front door. Glancing in the mirror, she hurried to the door to let Dante in.
“Mia Bella, how lovely you look,” he exclaimed, as he took her hand and brought it to his lips. “You take my breath away.”
“You are too kind, Dante. Thank you for the compliment. Please come in while I grab my shoes. I’m sorry I’m not ready. I confess I got lost in my work this morning.” She shrugged her shoulders.
“I understand. He glanced down. “You even have beautiful feet.”
She laughed. “You are too much. No one has pretty feet. Make yourself comfortable, I’ll be right back.”
When she returned, she found him examining her painting. She took in a sharp breath as he turned to look at her.

She let out a sigh. “I didn’t know if any...

... I was young. My last memory of them was when they both turned to wave goodbye to my grandfather and me as they walked away. They had the biggest smiles on their faces. Grandmother blew Grandfather a kiss and he caught it in his hand. That’s what I want to try to capture in the painting, the love between them.”
“It is amazing to me you can paint from memory and capture such emotion in your work, mia bella. He leaned toward her and captured her hand in his, giving it a little squeeze. “I must say I’m nervous about bringing you to see my work. I am afraid I don’t capture emotions like you do.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Alas, it is something an artist either possesses or does not.”
“I’m sure your work is much better than mine! You specialize in portraits. This was my first.”
“Well, you have created a painting that will put mine to shame. Ah, here comes our appetizer.”

- The photo—which my mama now held lovingly in her grasp—I hadn’t realized sat encased in an actual silver frame. - I had always been given a choice, I was never forced into the cage that was built around me, but if I hadn’t crawled into the cage and clipped my own wings, then I would have had to clip the wings of my daughter. I remember the first time I plucked a feather from imaginary wings that give freedom to youth to fly away from home; I was around twelve and wanted to go swimming in the river with a group of friends. The living room was vacant with nobody to be heard from. I had come to know this tension so well, but never got used to it. The kitchen table held many containers empty or half-empty with leftover food of previous nights, Along with the leftovers were many bottles, ten or fifteen green glass bottles, empty of its Heineken beer. Hear the birds’ chirping as the hay is raked into rows, mules blowing with all their might to clear the thick heavy cloud of dust from bailed hay. Look at the earth (I think you might need a comma here) it seems to be shaking, littered with black dust only to catch a glimpse of the (instead of saying “of the” maybe try “a”) sea of tiny swallows feasting upon the leftover seeds....   [tags: Grandparent, Family, Cougar, Life]
